An opening ceremony of the 2012 Cadet World Championship was held here Tuesday.
A video about performance of Azerbaijani athletes at the 30th London Olympics was shown Prior to the ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Ismayilov touched upon Azerbaijan`s sport successes in recent years. He added sports have developed in the country thanks to care and attention of President Ilham Aliyev.
FILA President Rafael Martinetti said Azerbaijan is recognized around the world as the sport nation. He thanked the Azerbaijani leadership and Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation for excellent organization of the championship.
Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Namig Aliyev thanked FILA for providing Azerbaijan with an opportunity to host the tournament. He noted Azerbaijan`s capital Baku has turned into one of the world`s sport centers.
The tournament brings together 850 athtes from 41 countries.
