Life-term prisoner Ramil Safarov brought to Azerbaijan, gets presidential pardon

Armed forces officer Ramil Safarov, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Hungarian capital of Budapest, has today been brought back to Azerbaijan, where he was pardoned by an Executive Order of President Ilham Aliyev.
At the Heydar Aliyev international Airport he was welcomed by senior Justice Ministry officials, journalists and family members. The Presidential Order was read out to Safarov, and he was given an Azerbaijani passport.
Speaking to journalists, he said: "I`m happy to have returned to Azerbaijan. Sometimes a man faces such moments in his life, when they are impossible to express in words. First and foremost, on behalf of my family members and on behalf of myself, I express my deepest and sincere gratitude to President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev for his humane move, for his signing the order to end my imprisonment."
"I also thank the people of Azerbaijan for their support, as well as the Ministry of Justice, our embassy in Budapest and all those who contributed to this," he added.
Safarov was escorted to his home to meet his father, Sahib Safarov, and other family members. The Presidential pardon order was once again read out to Safarov and his family members.
