A ceremony dedicated to the 64th anniversary of Israel and the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Israel took place on Monday at Baku's Yacht Club. The ceremony was attended by two countries' statesmen, parliamentarians, ambassadors of foreign countries in Azerbaijan, general public.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Israel Avigdor Lieberman said relations between Azerbaijan and Israel are developing very dynamically. "For 20 years we are talking about our diplomatic relations, but relations between our nations have a long history. The fact that today our relations are developing on the basis of mutual respect, trust and respect is a special merit of the heads of our states," Lieberman said.
"As a result of high level mutual visits, talks and signed documents our relations are developing successfully in all areas. If 20 years ago we were talking about 15-20 million U.S. dollars turnover between our countries, now trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Israel exceeded 4 billion U.S. dollars," he emphasized.
Lieberman congratulated participants on Azerbaijan's election non-permanent member of UN Security Council adding this is a good example of respect and trust to Azerbaijan.
The Israeli FM was pleased to say about the political stability and tolerance in Azerbaijan. Jewish people have always felt at home in Azerbaijan because the country is unique where representatives of all nations feel comfortable, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said.
Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan Natig Aliyev congratulated the guests on the 64th anniversary of the State of Israel. He said over 20 years the two countries have managed to achieve much progress.
"The meetings, signed documents have created a firm basis for the development of bilateral ties. Israel has won a great status in the world by developing new technologies. Azerbaijan has been developing to evolve into an exporting country. All these promoted the strengthening of our position and increasing credibility. I believe that the development of these ties will contribute to the future of both countries," Aliyev said.
