A meeting on the occasion of the 50th jubilee of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) took place in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. The organizer of the event was Thai New Agency (TNA).
The acting editor-in-chief of foreign desk of Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AzerTAc) Orkhan Muradov and special correspondent in Germany Vugar Seyidov participated in the meeting.
The welcome speeches were made by the acting president of MCOT Organization, managing TNA Sura Ghaintanasilp, deputy director of UNESCO office in Bangkok Etienne Clement, President of OANA, Director General of Anadolu Agency Kemal Ozturk and Thai Foreign minister Surapong Towijakchaikul.
The meeting participants watched a clip dedicated to the 50th jubilee of OANA. A meeting was followed by a roundtable meeting under the chairmanship of Anadolu and Thai Agencies. The participants discussed a role of OANA in the world`s news industry and global challenges.
The AzerTAc delegates said the Azerbaijani agency remains committed to main goals of OANA. Having joined the organization in 2004, AzerTAc became one of the more active members of this structure. The Agency attentively observes updates of OANA`s website and uses platform of the organization to raise awareness of the world community on realities and achievements of Azerbaijan. AzerTAc pays attention to intellectual property rights, boosts cooperation between the partners in exchange of news and uses multimedia technologies. The delegation of AzerTAc called on OANA members to use social networks to strengthen the structure`s position in the media-market.
OANA 50th Anniversary Ethical Guidelines Declaration was adopted during the meeting. The declaration includes principles the agencies must adhere to in covering wars, conflicts and natural disasters.
OANA was founded in Bangkok, in December 22 1961 at the initiative of the UN and UNESCO. Aim of the organization is to exchange news among the Asia-Pacific countries. OANA affiliates 44 agencies from 35 countries.
