Fourth Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption was held on 24-28 October in Marrakesh, Kingdom of Morocco, bringing together over 1600 reps from 154 states parties, as well as the countries with observer status, international and non-governmental organizations.
The session was also attended by Azerbaijani delegation comprising the head of department on work with law enforcement bodies of Presidential Administration of the Azerbaijan Republic Fuad Alaskarov, deputy general prosecutor Namig Askarov, the ambassador of Azerbaijan in the Kingdom of Morocco Sabir Agabeyov, the secretary of the Commission on fight against corruption Inam Kerimov, the chief of department on fight against corruption under the Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev.
The Conference participants discussed the mechanisms of control over execution of the Convention of the United Nations against corruption, the technical assistance, preventive measures and other questions.
Head of the delegation Fuad Alaskarov addressed the conference, giving detailed information on the measures carried out in Azerbaijan and the successes reached on fight against corruption and transparency. He also underlined that fight against corruption questions were defined by the President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev as a priority direction of Azerbaijan`s state policy. Various documents reflecting the undertaken measures in the field of political, socio-economic development, legal reforms, and also in fight against corruption sphere have been presented to the attention of participants.
In the frame of conference the delegation of Azerbaijan held meetings with representatives of some of the states and international organizations.
At the meeting with the deputy secretary general of the United Nations, the chief executive of Department of the United Nations on drugs and crimes Yury Fedotov, discussed were prospects of cooperation in the field of fight against corruption, opening in Baku the regional office of the Department of the United Nations on drugs and crimes. The partiers stressed the necessity of consolidation of the forces on strengthening of fighting against drug trafficking. At the meeting with the head of public service department of Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Sergey Dubik the parties discussed directions of bilateral legal cooperation and importance of development of communications in this area.
At the meeting held with the management of the International Anti-Corruption Academy with the headquarters in Austria, discussed were the questions of organization with Academy of joint actions and trainings and strengthening of cooperation between relevant educational institutions. Also were held meetings with representatives of other international organizations, including the Transparency International and the Global Organization of Parliamentarians against Corruption (GOPAC), and negotiations on the organization by Azerbaijan and these structures of joint actions.
Participants of the Conference adopted appropriate resolutions on the discussed questions. The next session will be held in 2013 in the Republic of Panama. The session ended with adoption of the preliminary agenda of the next session.
