On October 27th, the 31st Meeting of the Council of Heads of Security and Special Services Bodies of CIS Member States was held here.
The event brought together delegations from Security and Special Services Bodies of CIS Member States, CIS Antiterrorism Center, as well as German, Italian and French officials in the capacity of observers.
The meeting participants and Azerbaijan`s Minister of National Security, lieutenant-general Eldar Mahmudov have visited the Alley of Honors to lay a wreath at the tomb of Azerbaijan`s national leader Heydar Aliyev.
They also put flowers at the grave of prominent ophthalmologist, academician Zarifa Aliyeva.
Then, the event participants visited the Alley of Martyrs to commemorate Azerbaijani heroes who gave their lives for the country`s independence and territorial integrity.
They also laid a wreath at the Eternal Flame monument.
Addressing the event, Minister of National Security, lieutenant-general Eldar Mahmudov opened the 31st Meeting of the Council.
On behalf of Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade welcomed the participants of the event.
Rasizade stressed the importance of the event for strengthening security cooperation.
Eldar Mahmudov expressed confidence that the meeting`s discussions would contribute to ensuring regional and international security.
Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Sergey Lebedev expressed pleasure with the meeting between the event participants and Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev.
Lebedev said heads of state of the CIS countries attach a special importance to developing partnership even more.
The event was presided over by chairman of Council of Heads of Security and Special Services Bodies of CIS Member States and director of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation Alexander Bortnikov.
The meeting focused on a wide range of issues, including improvement of fight against terrorism, extremism, illegal drugs trade, illegal migration, cybercrimes, organized crime
The meeting saw signing of relevant resolutions, and approval of the action plan of the Council for the next year. The participants agreed the list of actions of the CIS Antiterrorism Center scheduled for 2012.
The event participants decided to hold the next meeting of Council of Heads of Security and Special Services Bodies of CIS Member States in Moldova.
