11th annual meeting of UNESCO's Goodwill Ambassadors took place today at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. First Lady of Azerbaijan, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and president of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva participated at the meeting.
The meeting was opened by the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, who welcomed the Goodwill Ambassadors. Bokova greeted Azerbaijan`s First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.
The Goodwill Ambassadors are eminent personalities who spread the ideals of UNESCO and promote its activities around their world through their name and fame. Several are linked to specific programs of the Organization, while others take part in special events such as concerts or exhibitions to raise funds for UNESCO or launch projects such as local radio stations or scientific workshops. Goodwill Ambassadors also participate in campaigns to promote education, the struggle against HIV and AIDS and protection of street children.
The meeting focused on the Organization's post-conflict and post disaster activities, the 2011 Education for All Monitoring Report, and a session on the promotion of youth initiatives and civic commitments for peace and dialogue.
UNESCO Director General highly assessed Mehriban Aliyeva`s support to eliminate results of the natural disaster that hit Haiti and expressed gratitude to her.

Then, the Goodwill Ambassadors discussed the ways of supporting the initiatives and values of the Organization, its activity on gender equity, post-conflict and natural disaster settings, education questions, etc. Participants of annual meeting noted the programs and projects, gained achievements in this field in Azerbaijan at initiative of the country`s First Lady.

Several editions narrating on current development of Azerbaijan, about Gala State Historical-Ethnographic Reserve, depicting national monuments, carpets, cuisine published by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation were presented at the meeting.
