The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Jose Miguel Insulza, today received from the hands of the Permanent Observer of Azerbaijan to the OAS and Ambassador to the United States, Yashar Aliyev, and from the Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the United Nations, Ambassador Agshin Mehdiyev, a donation of 20,000 dollars for OAS programs on peace, human rights, and children and youth.
More specifically, 10,000 dollars will go to the Inter-American Children's Institute; 5,000 to the OAS Peace Fund; and another 5,000 to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).
In a ceremony held at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC, Secretary General Insulza also addressed issues of current affairs in the American continent with the representatives of Azerbaijan, which became an Observer Country of the hemispheric organization in 2001 and is in the process of strengthening relations with governments of the region.
