An article entitled "Azerbaijan-territory of religious tolerance" was placed on website of Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper.
The article says: "Today, Russians are weakly aware of the former soviet republic and its capital. Baku city is the place of oil, black caviar and eminent singer Muslim Magomayev. A construction boom covers Azerbaijan today. Over the past 15 years, the construction sector increased 41-fold. New houses and hotels are built in Baku. The city reminds Paris: the buildings in a style of Osman Baron, as well as TV tower, main city dominant, instead of the Eiffel. The old city Icheri Sheher keeps its Eastern color: restaurants, small shops with carpets and souvenirs. An ancient Palace of Shirvanshahs is in the center of the Old city. And, of course, an unforgettable Maiden Tower - the visiting card of Baku city".
On tolerance to national minorities, the article says that a large number of Russians live here as a distinct from other foreign Soviet republics.
"A wine-making production is also a national pride. More than 90% of people are Moslems. Azerbaijan is a secular state. A fair sex of local population demonstrates knowledge to the European brands and does not favor the hijab," the article reads.
