The Center for Strategic Studies under the Azerbaijan President and Russian Institute of Strategic Studies hosted a roundtable meeting on "The role of Russia and Azerbaijan in Near and Middle East".
The meeting focused on geopolitical processes in the South Caucasus region, Russia-Iran relationship, nuclear program of Iran, role of Russia and Azerbaijan in regional security system, as well as political, economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.
The event brought together director of the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies Leonid Reshetnikov and experts on regional and international relations.
Adressing the event, Reshetnikov said the current situation in the Middle East could cause conflicts on a world scale, adding the international community makes efforts to to prevent it.
He added Russia and Azerbaijan play important role not only in the South Caucasus, but Near and Middle East region.
Reshetnikov noted an agreement on cooperation will be signed in the near future between the Center for Strategic Studies under the Azerbaijan President and Russian Institute of Strategic Studies.
Director of the Center for Strategic Studies Elkhan Nuriyev and Russian ambassador Vladimir Dorokhin spoke of relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, saying they are based on mutual confidence. They expressed confidence that bilateral relations would develop even more in the future.
It was noted world countries, as well as Russia supports well-balanced policy of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.
