Congressman Adam Kinzinger joins U.S. Congressional Azerbaijan Caucus

Member of the Republican Party, the United States Representative for the Eleventh Congressional District of Illinois, Congressman Adam Kinzinger has joined a U.S. Congressional Azerbaijan Caucus.
Kinzinger was born in 1978 in Kankakee, but raised in Bloomington, Illinois. He graduated from Normal Community West High School and earned a bachelor`s degree from Illinois State University in 2000. He served as an intern for former U.S. Senator Peter Fitzgerald as part of a program offered at Illinois State. In 2003, he joined the United States Air Force. He is a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, one of the oldest standing committees of the United States House of Representatives.
In April, 2011, Congressman Adam Kinzinger as part of the Congressional Delegation travelled to the Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Afghanistan. The group met with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and discussed regional security as well as ways to strengthen democratic institutions in the country.
The Congressional Azerbaijan Caucus (CAC) was formed in the beginning of 2004 by congressmen Curt Weldon (R-PA) and Solomon Ortiz (D-TX), its founding co-chairmen. Con. Weldon has led several congressional delegations to Azerbaijan, greatly expanding bilateral relations. Since then, the CAC has grown to 42 members (as of July 2008) and is currently co-chaired by Rep. Solomon Ortiz and Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA).
The Caucus has played an important role in increasing the understanding of the Congress on the Caspian energy and geopolitics of the South Caucasus region, in further developing the strategic relations between the United States and Republic of Azerbaijan, increasing trade, security and military cooperation between the two nations, better grasp issues surrounding the illegal military occupation of Azerbaijani lands such as the Nagorno-Karabakh and other regions around it by Armenia, the Armenian blockade against Nakhchivan region of Azerbaijan, and energizing the Azerbaijani-American voters.
