Inauguration of Heydar Aliyev Park took place Thursday in Astrakhan, Russia, as part of "Russia and Azerbaijan: towards new horizons of interregional cooperation" forum.
Members of Azerbaijan and Russian delegations to the Forum, representatives of the Azerbaijan Diaspora of Astrakhan, press and general public attended the event. The attendees laid flowers at the monument to national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev.
Addressing the inauguration, governor of Astrakhan region of Russia Aleksandr Zhilkin emphasized that the opening of a monument in memory of the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev, is a symbol of friendship between the people of Russia and Azerbaijan. Zhilkin also expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev for the promotion of this project.
Head of the Azerbaijan presidential administration`s social and political affairs department Ali Hasanov addressing the ceremony mentioned that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev last year attended the inauguration of the monument.
Then a symbolic time capsule was placed into the foundation of a foot-bridge which will bind Heydar Aliyev Park with a Park where a monument to Peter the Great is set up. The construction of a foot-bridge will be completed in September.
