A working group responsible for drafting a convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea will discuss parts of the Caspian legal status convention at a two-day meeting, which opened yesterday in Baku.
Azeri Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khalaf Khalafov, who chaired the meeting, briefed the participants on agreement on security cooperation in the Caspian Sea. According to Khalafov, the current agreement gave a renewed impetus to cooperation between the boundary and customs services of Caspian littoral states.
Presidential advisor for Caspian Sea affairs of Iran Mohammad Mehdi Akhoundzadeh, Russian Special Envoy for Caspian Issues Alexander Golovin, special representative on Caspian affairs of Turkmenistan Murat Atajanov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kayrat Saribay discussed the imposing of ban on fishing for sturgeon in the Caspian Sea, exchanged views on the issues of security, law and various aspects of cooperation in the Caspian Sea.
The Baku meeting also focused on the environmental situation in the Caspian Sea, productive usage and protection of Caspian natural resources.
