On April 8, in the frame of the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue a seminar on the theme "Influence of technology, social media and journalism on intercultural relations" was held in Baku.
At the workshop, the participants heard reports and discussed the role of Internet, technologies and social media in the modern world, positive and negative sides of such social networks as Facebook and Twitter.
The permanent representative of Azerbaijan in the Council of Europe, presiding over the seminar Ambassador Arif Mammadov noted urgency of the discussed theme.
The diplomat touched upon the role of social networks in dialogue adjustment between the people living in different parts of the world and representing various cultures, in intensive development of information technology, and also communications of social and traditional media.
A. Mammadov, in particular, underlined importance of correct use by youth of the possibilities provided by social networks.
The journalist of Euronews Channel noted that in the modern world really there is a big requirement for intercultural dialogue. In this context he has especially underlined value of a current Forum in Baku.
The editor-in-chief of international network Global Voice Online (USA) Solana Larsen spoke of innovations applied now in media, value of the current intercultural Forum in dialogue adjustment among journalists. The representative of California University Kader Abdurrahim concerned the role of social media in development of intercultural relations at the present stage.
Having expressed to the leadership of Azerbaijan gratitude for high level of the organization of Forum, K. Abdurrahim stated that the social networks as Facebook and Twitter haven`t replaced traditional media.
The representative of French organization Le Media Francis Pisani has especially underlined value of carrying out of such seminar in the frame of the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.
Participating in discussions the adviser of the President of Iran for the press, the chief executive of IRNA Ali Akbar Cavanfekr, Cuba' culture minister Abel Prieto, the proxy director, the vice-president of board of the Iraq National News Agency (NINA) Abdul Muhsin Javad, MP Asim Mollazade, the editor-in-chief of the Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AzerTAc) Yashar Guluzade and others have expressed their opinions, made offers on influence of social media and journalism on intercultural relations.
Azerbaijan'` deputy minister of communications and information technologies Elmir Velizade made appropriate presentation at the workshop.
