Foreign Ministry warns Azerbaijani citizens against travel to Japan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan warned the Azerbaijani citizens against the current situation in Japan.
"8.8-magnitude earthquake hit north-east of Japan in the Pacific Ocean on March 11, 2011. The natural disaster caused large-scale damages on nine prefectures in the eastern part of Japan. Post-quake tsunami devastated Fukushima, Miyagi and Iwate prefectures on the north-eastern and eastern coasts of Japan leaving the residential areas under the water. The quake also damaged two nuclear plants in Fukushima causing increase of radiation in the area for 1000 times above norm. According to the Japanese officials, increase of radiation is continued.
Population of areas in 20 km of Fukushima Dai-Chi nuclear power plant was recommended to be evacuated and people living in the areas 20-30 km of the plant were urged not to leave their homes. Taking all of these reports into consideration, the citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan planning to travel to Japan are recommended to be careful and to postpone their travels if it is not important.
The citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan permanently or temporarily residing in Japan are recommended to regularly follow the instructions of the local authorities about quake and radiation threats and to observe the existing rules, as well as to address the Azerbaijani embassy in Tokyo for the assistance to solve any problem".
