The ceremonial event marking the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan`s restoring its independence and a presentation of the book called "Azerbaijan" was held here on Thursday.
Azerbaijan`s First Lady, president of the Hedyar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva attended the event, which was jointly organized by Foundation and Azerbaijan`s embassy in France.
France`s Culture Minister Frederic Mitterrand extended his greetings over the anniversary of Azerbaijan`s independence. He called France as one of the "closest" friends of Azerbaijani culture.
The French minister praised contributions of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation to developing the culture in Azerbaijan. He said Azerbaijan is home to mugham and ashig music. The Minister added French people like to listen to the music of Azerbaijani composers.
First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva thanked for care and attention to Azerbaijan and its culture in France. Mrs. Aliyeva expressed satisfaction with being held of the first event celebrating the 20th anniversary of her country`s independence. She gave detailed information about Azerbaijan`s history, culture and the way of development.
Following a concert program of Azerbaijani musicians, the event featured an exhibition of Azerbaijani carpets and coppersmiths.
As a part of the exhibition, a presentation of the book called "Azerbaijan" in French which is one of the most important projects of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
The book contains pictures of history, culture, nature, human sources, cities and regions of Azerbaijan.
