On December 17th Speaker of the Azerbaijan National Assembly, Ogtay Asadov met a delegation led by Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People`s Political Consultative Conference, Bai Lichen.
The sides discussed prospects for development of legislative bodies of the two countries, cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian and other spheres, the importance of reciprocal visits and exchange of experience.
Asadov praised Azerbaijan-China relationship, saying good legal basis exists for expansion of bilateral cooperation. The Speaker noted Azerbaijan was interested in cooperation with China in various spheres, and this policy would further continue.
Asadov also spoke of the ongoing development processes in Azerbaijan, noting that his country constitutes 80 percent of GDP of the South Caucasus region. He added Azerbaijan was both initiator and participant of economic projects being carried out in the region. “And this serves increasing the country` image not only in the region, but also the world.”
Bai Lichen, in turn, said China attaches great importance to development of relationship with Azerbaijan, the leader country in the South Caucasus. He highly appreciated the fact that Azerbaijan was developing rapidly and making investments in other countries. He said Azerbaijan-China relations had deep roots. Lichen also pointed out Baku had already become one of the most beautiful cities of the world.
The Vice-Chairman of the National Committee said official Beijing supports Azerbaijan`s just position on settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and this policy would remain unchanged.
