"The opening of an airport in Khojaly by the Armenian side contradicts international norms and is a provocation," said spokesman of Azerbaijan`s Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev.
According to him, Armenia's opening Khankendi airport will seriously undermine the negotiations process. He reminded that "Armenians committed a genocide against Azerbaijanis in Khojaly and this airport represents great symbolic importance for the Azerbaijani people".
"This move by Armenia is disrespect to the Khojaly victims. This act caused anger and serious dissatisfaction within society and especially IDPs. Opening of the airport means continuation of Armenian aggression and occupation. It is obvious that Armenia will try to use this airport for military purposes. Sending military planes to Azerbaijan`s air space is an action against territorial integrity of Azerbaijan."
Abdullayev reminded that opening of the airport is against the Chicago convention and means violation of the air space of Azerbaijan.
He also added that according to some information, some foreign companies are assisting Armenia in installing equipment at the airport.
"One of them is TALEYS Company. Azerbaijan is in constant contact with this company, demanding an immediate end to this cooperation. Otherwise Azerbaijan will take adequate measures," said Abdullayev.
