Azerbaijani President allocates additional AZN50m to tackle consequences of natural disaster caused by flooding of Kura and Araz rivers

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an Executive Order allocating additional AZN50 million to tackle the consequences of a natural disaster caused by the flooding of Kura and Araz rivers in 2010.
The President instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to ensure the allocation of the funds to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, which must speed up the work to construct individual houses and social and infrastructure facilities in the flood-affected areas, as well as carry out additional measures with respect to strengthening the social security of the people who suffered from the disaster.
Under the presidential order, the Ministry of Emergency Situations must report to the President - once in three months - on the course of the work done.
The floods damaged a total of 27 residential areas in Sabirabad, Saatlı, Imishli, Hajıgabul, Salyan, Neftchala, Kurdamir and Zardab regions.
Five new districts, more than 3,000 houses, nearly 100 social and infrastructure facilities have been built and over 5,000 houses have been repaired as part of the rehabilitation work so far.
The flood-affected people have received a total of AZN20 million in compensation.
