On October 31st the 3rd Baku International Humanitarian Forum started at the Heydar Aliyev Centre.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony of the Forum.
Baku International Humanitarian Forum is a high-profile global scientific and political platform for tackling the challenges facing humanity in the 21st century, holding dialogues, discussions and the exchange of views on a wide range of issues of humanitarian cooperation.
With its rich traditions of cooperation among different cultures, civilizations and religions, Azerbaijan is the ideal venue for holding such events.
Co-chairmen of the 3rd Baku International Humanitarian Forum are President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
The Forum brings together officials from more than 70 countries, former presidents, scientists, cultural figures and Nobel Laureates.
The Head of State addressed the Forum`s opening ceremony.
Messages of greetings of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon to the Forum participants were read out.
A video address by Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova was featured.
Other speakers at the event included ISESCO Director General Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri and the 9th President of Turkey Suleyman Demirel.
The Forum continued with a plenary session.
