On August 31st President Ilham Aliyev received ambassadors and heads of diplomatic representations of Muslim countries in Azerbaijan on the holy month of Ramadan.
The Head of State asked the meeting participants to convey his cordial greetings to their heads of state and government.
The President noted the month of Ramadan embodies the unity of all Muslims living across the world.
The Azerbaijani leader underlined the necessity of strengthening friendly and fraternal relations and Islamic solidarity among Muslim countries.
The President underscored the importance of the fact that the number of Muslim countries` embassies in Azerbaijan increases. He added Azerbaijan is also increasing the number of its embassies in Muslim countries.
President Ilham Aliyev touched upon successful bilateral and international cooperation between Azerbaijan and Muslim countries. He noted Baku had hosted several important events which were organized by the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
The Head of State recalled that Baku was proclaimed the capital of Islamic culture for 2009. He also said Azerbaijan would spare no efforts to contribute to the Islamic solidarity.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the President said Muslim countries demonstrate fair position on settlement of the problem.
The Head of State expressed assurance that the conflict would be settled on the basis of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and norms of international law. He once again called for the international community to strengthen pressure on occupant Armenia.
Uzbek Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismatilla Ergashev congratulated President Ilham Aliyev and Azerbaijani people on behalf of ambassadors and heads of diplomatic representations. He underlined the importance of the fact that a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan has become a tradition.
The ambassador stressed national leader Heydar Aliyev`s irreplaceable contributions to achieving successes in all spheres of life in Azerbaijan.
The diplomat pointed out due to President Ilham Aliyev`s wise and balanced policy Azerbaijan's position strengthens continuously. Ergashev said Azerbaijan is a country which ensures stability and dynamic development in the South Caucasus region.
On the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the ambassador noted the stance of Muslim countries on the issue remains unchanged.
He underlined Azerbaijan's active participation in the Organization of the Islamic Conference, describing the country as an obvious example of religious tolerance and inter-civilization.
