On November 13th President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended a ceremony to inaugurate new headquarters of Yasamal District Court.
The Head of State cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the building, and then toured it.
There are photo stands in the foyer of the building reflecting national leader Heydar Aliyev`s and President Ilham Aliyev`s attention to developing the judicial system in the country.
Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov informed the President that Yasamal District Court serves nearly 300,000 people.
President Ilham Aliyev viewed photos of the courts of Yasamal District, Nizami District in Ganja, and Gadabay District. He also viewed photos of a modern court complex built under the Justice Ministry`s "Modernization of the Justice System" project, which is co-financed by the Azerbaijani government and the World Bank.
The Head of State was told that new headquarters of Yasamal District Court were built under "Modernization of the Justice System" project. The building occupies a total area of 7,672 square meters. The construction of the four-storey building began in 2010.
The building is divided into two zones, an administrative and a public one. The administrative zone is designed for judges and other court staff, while the public zone will be used by citizens. The Justice Ministry executors, prosecutors and lawyers will use the public zone of the court, which restricts out-of-court relations between judges and citizens as they can see each other only in courtrooms.
The Justice Minister said all conditions were created in Yasamal District Court for the disabled in accordance with requirements of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The Minister informed the Head of State of the conditions created in courtrooms and pre-trial detention facilities. Fikrat Mammadov said defendants will be brought to courtrooms by special security elevators. Sixty IP surveillance cameras were installed in the building.
The President toured courtrooms and a conference hall.
The opening ceremony also featured video conferencing with courts in Gadabay, Oguz and Ganja.
