On November 5th President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by United Nations Under-Secretary-General Wu Hongbo.
Wu Hongbo conveyed Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon`s greetings to the Head of State.
He hailed cooperation between the UN and Azerbaijan.
Wu Hongbo congratulated the President on the country`s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013.
The UN Under-Secretary-General noted the Azerbaijani government attaches special attention to development of information and communication technologies.
He said Azerbaijan became the leading country in the region in the ICT sector.
Wu Hongbo thanked the Azerbaijani President for the excellent organization of the 7th Internet Governance Forum.
He stressed the importance of Azerbaijan`s active participation in the United Nations` projects on E-Government.
The Azerbaijani leader stressed the importance of Wu Hongbo`s attending the 7th Internet Governance Forum in Baku.
The Head of State said the information and communication technologies sector was one of key priorities in Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev recalled his last meeting with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York during Azerbaijan`s presidency of the organization`s Security Council.
The Head of State stressed the importance of election of Azerbaijan as a member of the UN Security Council with strong international support when the country marked its 20th anniversary of independence.
The President expressed hope Azerbaijan would play an active role in encouraging peace, security and friendship in 2013.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence cooperation between Azerbaijan and UN would continue to develop.
The Head of State asked Wu Hongbo to pass on his greetings to the UN Secretary General.
