As earlier reported, on May 7, earthquakes hit the north-west region of Azerbaijan. On May 9, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited Zagatala region to meet inhabitants of the region which has suffered from earthquake and familiarize with the measures undertaken for elimination of consequences of natural disaster.

The Minister of Emergencies, colonel-general Kamaleddin Heydarov in detail informed President Ilham Aliyev on consequences of disaster.
As stated, the repeated tremors on May 7 at 19.15 in magnitude of 7 points in earthquake epicenter have entailed more serious destructions. As a whole, for the past period about 500 tremors have been fixed, some of which were more palpable.
As was noted, as a result of earthquake about three thousand houses in Zagataa, Gakh and Balaken regions have partly destroyed. Serious damage was caused to a quantity of social objects.
The villages Gezbarag, Mamrukh, Zeyem, Mukhakh, Bazar Kimir and Chobankol, Zagatala, as well as the villages Gulluk, Zarna, and Lelepasha of Gakh region that were in the epicenter of quakes, have completely destroyed.
Under the order of the head of state for liquidation of consequences of earthquake, a headquarters and working groups were set up take corresponding measures by definition of the damage scale. In short terms, the Ministry of Emergencies, a lot of techniques and equipment, tents, a considerable quantity of building materials were delivered to the quakes-hit region.
Delivery of additional techniques, building materials, equipment and other necessary materials to the area continues.
Then, President Ilham Aliyev arrived in the village Gezbarag of the Zagatala region located in epicenter of earthquake.
President Ilham Aliyev said that the state will render all-round assistance to the families which have suffered from earthquake. The head of the state also met inhabitants here.
The President underlined that the Azerbaijani state would render all assistance and gave appropriate recommendations.
Then, the head of state arrived in Gulluk village located in epicenter of earthquake, Gakh region.

Then, in the headquarters set up in connection with earthquake in Zagatala region, President Ilham Aliyev chaired a meeting.
The head of state gave to corresponding structures certain recommendations on reconstruction of the hit buildings and houses.
President Ilham Aliyev noted that for liquidation of earthquake consequences, from the Azerbaijani President's Reserve Fund 20 mln AZN will be allocated to the Ministry of Emergencies.
President of Azerbaijan also gave certain tasks on resettlement of the residents of the houses which have suffered from earthquake, their food maintenance, health services and maintenance of other services.
The same day, President Ilham Aliyev returned to Baku.
