As part of his working visit to Belgium, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met Wednesday with permanent representatives of NATO member states at the North Atlantic Council.
Addressing the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the accomplishments Azerbaijan achieved over 20 years after the country regained independence. The Head of State drew the attention to the ongoing successful reforms in political, economic, social and other spheres. President Aliyev pointed out successful reforms in Azerbaijan, restoration of political and economic stability, strengthening of political system ensured rapid economic development in the country. He added the country received huge investments.
The Head of State said energy-rich Azerbaijan plays a significant role in energy security of Europe. President Ilham Aliyev noted the dynamics of economic development testifies that Azerbaijan would achieve its goals.
The Head of State said all achievements Azerbaijan had gained were based on deliberate policy.
Touching upon successes of Azerbaijan`s foreign policy President Ilham Aliyev said the country`s positions had strengthened in the international arena.
The Head of State noted today Azerbaijan enjoys great trust and confidence around the globe, adding the country`s election as member of the UN Security Council is important in this regard.
President Ilham Aliyev also underlined Azerbaijan`s cooperation with international organizations, including NATO.
The Head of State also drew the attention to his country`s stance on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He added the problem must be settled on the basis of norms and principles of international law, territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Permanent representatives of NATO member states said the countries they represent support Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity with respect to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
On the Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation, they highly appreciated the country`s participation in peacemaking operations in Afghanistan. They also said their countries attach `great` importance to relations with Azerbaijan. The permanent representatives also stressed Azerbaijan`s role in energy security of Europe.
Then President Ilham Aliyev answered questions of permanent representatives on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan`s role in energy security of Europe and other matters.
