On December 23rd President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Foreign Minister of Iraq Hoshyar Zebari.
Hoshyar Zebari conveyed greetings of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to the Head of State. The Minister thanked the Azerbaijani President for the activity of country`s peacekeeping forces in Iraq.
The Iraqi official stressed that the peoples of the two countries have close relations and common culture, noting importance of expansion of these ties. He also underlined significance of opening Azerbaijan`s Embassy in Iraq.
The Head of State pointed out that there is good opportunity to establish partnership relations between the two countries. President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that Azerbaijani Embassy will start operations in Iraq soon. President described activity of Azerbaijan`s peacekeeping forces in Iraq as an assistance to the friendly people of Iraq. The Head of State stressed he was deeply grieved upon hearing the news on heavy human loss as a result of the latest terrorist act in Iraq, and asked the Minister to deliver his condolences to the Iraqi people.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed satisfaction on successful cooperation between the two states within framework of the international organizations, and thanked the Iraqi government for its support of Azerbaijan in the UN General Assembly discussions on Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and UN Security Council elections. The Head of State expressed confidence that Hoshyar Zebari`s visit will contribute to expansion of cooperation between the two countries.
Azerbaijani President asked Minister Hoshyar Zebari to extend his greetings to the Iraqi President and Prime Minister.
