A third meeting of the Council of Presidents of Azerbaijan and Ukraine took place on completion of one-on-one meeting of the Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Viktor Yanukovich. Members of the Azerbaijan and Ukrainian delegations attended the meeting.
Opening the meeting, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev welcomed the Ukrainian President. He said: "This is your first visit to Azerbaijan in the capasity of the President of Ukraine. I hope the visit will be successful and will yield good results. I also would like to thank you for your kind hospitality during my last year`s visit to your country".
The Azerbaijan President also stressed that both Azerbaijan and Ukraine have determined core directions of cooperation.
"I think that we will determine further steps for the development of Azerbaijan-Ukraine relations on the results of the Council of Presidents` meeting. We highly estimate our relations with Ukraine, and hope stage-by-stage development of relations between Ukraine and Azerbaijan will also contribute to the regional cooperation", President Ilham Aliyev said.
President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich, in turn, expressed gratitude to the President of Azerbaijan for the invitation to visit Azerbaijan.
"Our countries have been staunch strategic partners for a long time. It is an evidence of how the relationship between two very close states should be built. We are successfully developing our relations on a bilateral level. Our intergovernmental committee and subcommittees work in all directions. And I am pleased with the fact that Ukraine has become a second trade partner of Azerbaijan after Russia", President Viktor Yanukovich emphasized.
