Relations between United States and Azerbaijan are very strong. Azerbaijan achieved much progress over the 20 years of independence. Today Azerbaijan and the United States are very close partners. The two countries share common interests in the field of security, energy and domestic reforms. 
The statement came from temporary plenipotentiary of the United States in Azerbaijan Adam Sterling in his interview to Azerbaijan's ANS TV channel.
Sterling described the US-Azerbaijan relations as strong and high.
The diplomat emphasized that Azerbaijan has regained its independence amid complex regional circumstances.
"The country was under the influence of foreign forces, at the same time, it was involved in armed conflict. In such circumstances, the United States provided Azerbaijan with aid in order to support the country's will to develop as an independent and strong state and keep on helping Azerbaijan now," the diplomat said.
Speaking about the successes of Azerbaijan, Sterlinq said that for the last 5-6 years the country has made great achievements in economic development, a lot of positive changes have taken place in society. In addition, last year the government of Azerbaijan adopted a very important law related to anti-corruption strategy.
"We believe that the continuation of reforms in this area is of great importance in terms of the establishment of long-term stability," according to Sterling.
The diplomat also touched upon the US-Azerbaijan cooperation in the field of defense and security. He expressed his gratitude to the government of Azerbaijan for the support of regional security and peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan.
