On November 15th the 5th CIS International Banking Conference entitled "The financial markets of CIS: new opportunities and global risks" kicked off in Baku.
Head of Azerbaijan`s Presidential Administration, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, also attended the conference, organized by CIS Financial-Banking Council and the International Bank of Azerbaijan (IBA).
Speaking to the conference, the IBA Board Chairman Jahangir Hajiyev stressed the importance of the conference. He said it contributed to developing the relations among member states.
"The IBA has contributed to the expansion of relations among CIS`s economic organizations, as well as the commonwealth`s activity in the financial field," Hajiyev said.
Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, the CIS Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev emphasized the necessity of improving trade among member states.
Lebedev hailed the IBA`s activity in developing Islamic banking process.
Anatoly Kazakov, chairman of the Coordination Council of the Financial-Banking Council (FBC), said CIS`s banking system is growing and the volume of its assets reached 1.5 trillion dollars last year.
The conference heared reports and featured discussions on a variety of issues, including "Endurance of CIS financial markets" and "Caspian littoral financial markets".
The conference also featured a ceremony to name the bests of the last year, and IBA won "The Best Bank of CIS" award of the CIS International Bank Council, while the IBA Board Chairman Jahangir Hajiyev was named "The Best Banker of CIS".
The conference was attended by delegations of CIS financial and banking institutions, international financial organizations, as well as representatives of Azerbaijani banking and insurance companies.
