Thirteenth session of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between the Azerbaijan Republic and the Russian Federation has taken place in Moscow.
Opening the session, chairman of the Russian part of the commission, the vice-president of the Government of the Russian Federation, the plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the North Caucasian Federal District Alexander Khloponin noted that the commission will consider pressing questions of interaction of the basic branches of economy, will make important decisions on bilateral cooperation in the field of fuel and energy complex, the space industry, transport, agriculture, science and high technologies, regional and frontier cooperation.
As he said, more than two years have passed since the previous, 12th session and much was made, "however, the potential of economic cooperation is much more, and we have to aspire to much more". A. Khloponin also underlined that in connection with the decision of presidents of two countries on activation of work of the commission there was a necessity to conduct inventory of all adopted decisions and arrangements, to give certain estimation to the done work and to plan the basic directions in the field of perspective development of the Russian-Azerbaijan cooperation of economic sphere.
Chairman of the Azerbaijani side of the commission, the first vice-premier of the Azerbaijan Republic Yagub Eyyubov has in turn expressed deep satisfaction with development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, noting that Azerbaijan considers as a priority direction of the policy cooperation with Russia in all spheres. Y. Eyyubov said that the two countries are connected by close ties of friendship and cooperation, naming relations between Russia and Azerbaijan strategic and partner. He has congratulated Alexander Khloponin on appointment as the co-chairman of the Russian-Azerbaijan economic commission.
Concerning the prospects of development of economic relations, Y. Eyyubov noted that Russia for Azerbaijan is the main trading partner, and there is a huge potential for expansion of cooperation and goods turnover increase.
Yagub Eyyubov also paid attention to high level of cooperation between the leaders of two countries, mutual visits and opening in many regions of Russia of monuments to the national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev. "It is high appreciation, and the attitude to Azerbaijan. Heydar Aliyev was the leader not only of the Azerbaijani people, but also all Soviet people", he stressed.
Yagub Eyyubov said that leaders of both states have defined the cooperation lath, and how to build relations. "There is a political will, and there is an affinity and mutual respect of leaders. We will follow their example, and the commission in the work will aspire to be an example for other CIS countries", the first vice-premier of Azerbaijan underlined. He also expressed gratitude to the leadership of Russia for active position of Russia led by Dmitry Medvedev in settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
During session also considered were the questions, concerning implementation of decisions of 12th session of the commission, about condition and the basic directions of development of trade and economic relations between the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan, about cooperation in the field of transport, communication and information technology, prevention and liquidation of consequences of emergency situations, etc.
Deputy minister of foreign affairs Khalaf Khalafov, the deputy minister of economic development Niyazi Safarov, the deputy minister of communication and information technology Elmir Velizade, the chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov, the vice-president of SOCAR Elshad Nasirov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation Polad Bulbuloglu and representatives of the various ministries and departments have taken part in work of the intergovernmental commission. From the Russian side the stats-secretary, the deputy minister of foreign affairs of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin, the ambassador of Russia to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin, the aide to the Russian president - the chairman of the board of "Bank VTB" Open Society Alexander Budberg, representatives of the various ministries and departments of Russia participated in session.
Following the results of session, the attendees signed the protocol of 13th session of the Intergovernmental Russian-Azerbaijan commission on economic cooperation.
