Goychay is known for its long history of growing the pomegranates, certainly the best in Azerbaijan. So every year, for the last five years, Goycay has had a pomegranate festival. And current year, the Executive Power of Goychay region holds the traditional pomegranate festival. 
The festival is conducted in the Central Park of Goychay in front of the Heydar Aliyev Center, where participating were Members of Parliament, officials of surrounding regions, ambassadors of foreign countries, reps of international organizations in the country, public figures and media people.
The audience was addressed by officials, MPs, ambassadors, who congratulated the residents of Goychay renowned for its tasty pomegranates (local name is "nar") in both red and white variations. So, nar is considered the fruit of Paradise and even mentioned in holy Koran. By the way, in Goychay, they grow 40 sorts of pomegranates. In the Old Egypt dead peoples were buried with the fruit of pomegranate. For this day, in the world are known more then 100 sorts of pomegranates.
Schoolchildren recited poems dedicated to pomegranate, while the national musicians performed folk songs at the festival.
Within the Pomegranate Festival, also various contests, games and fairs were arranged.
