The World Media Summit under the motto "World media: challenges of XXI century" commenced in the Congress Hall of the "World Trade Center". The summit is organized under the aegis of the Russian ITAR-TASS News Agency.
More than 300 top-managers representing 213 mass-media from 102 world countries take part in summit.
Delegation of leading mass-media of Azerbaijan, headed by the General Director of the State Telegraph Agency - AzerTAc Aslan Aslanov also takes part at the event.
The Moscow forum will become continuation of the conversation begun at the World Media Summit in Beijing in 2009 and the World Congress of News Agencies in Moscow of 2004. Heads of nine international organizations, including UNESCO, and also EuroParliament delegation take part at the summit.
General Director of ITAR-TASS, the president of the World Media Summit Vitaly Ignatenko opened forum. He read the salutatory message of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to participants of the World Media Summit.
The greeting of the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev was read out by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of the Russian Federation Nikolay Nikiforov.
With a video greeting to participants of the summit addressing was the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
The chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Sergey Naryshkin spoke of the vision of the present and the future of mass-media.
S. Naryshkin mentioned pressing questions of modern mass-media, speaking about important political reforms in the Russian Federation and integration processes on CIS space.
The summit was addressed by the president of Chinese News Agency "Xinhua", the president of "Reuters" Agency Susan Taylor Martin and others.
