Baku International humanitarian forum discusses convergence of sciences

Globalization, ways of saving earth resources and demographic crisis have topped a panel meeting as part of the Baku International humanitarian forum "XXI century: Hopes and Challenges".
The meeting, called Convergence of sciences, was opened by president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Mahmud Karimov. He stressed the importance of exploring new ways of tackling global threats and challenges. "A humanitarian aspect is of great significance here."
Director of Russia`s "Kurchatov Institute" scientific research center Mikhail Kovalchuk said it was very important to find ways of decreasing mankind`s dependence on energy resources.
Other speakers at the meeting included Russian academicians Yevgeniy Velikhov and Sergey Kapitsa and Azerbaijani scholar Ali Abbasov.
The panel meeting also heard reports by Lithuanian, Iranian and Italian scholars.
