Chairman of Azerbaijan State Committee for Work with Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov has met special envoy to the Secretary General of the United Nations, vice-chair of the Reflection group on the long term future of the European Union, Latvian ex-president Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga.
Ibrahimov briefed Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga on the activities of the Azerbaijani Diaspora organizations abroad.
He also spoke of how to involve members of the Azerbaijani community in Latvia into the country's society.
The chairman said "our compatriots living in Latvia must make vigorous efforts to increase the awareness of the country's people about the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict".
For her part, Ms. Vaira Vike-Freiberga praised the ongoing economic development process in Azerbaijan.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Ibrahimov said the problem must be settled peacefully and on the basis of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.
The sides also discussed the current state of and prospects for Azerbaijan-EU cooperation, regional and global issues.
