On January 28, New Mexico House of Representatives of the US adopted a resolution on the US-Azerbaijan strategic partnership.
The resolution passed unanimously says Azerbaijan, which regained its independence in 1991, has strengthened its sovereignty and independence in the recent 20 years and become one of the fastest growing states of the region. According to the document, the US and UN recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, which territory is 33440 sq mi including Nagorno-Karabakh and Nakhchivan.
The resolution underlines that the US and Azerbaijan established strong strategic partnership relations based on common values, interests and views.
“Azerbaijan is a strong ally and strategic partner of the US in the important Caspian region. After the September 11 attacks Azerbaijan offered full support to the US, sent peacekeepers to Afghanistan, the two countries are successfully cooperating in non-proliferation and struggling against terrorism.”
The document emphasizes Azerbaijan`s contribution to energy security of the US and Europe and particularly emphasizes that Azerbaijan is a secular country with ancient traditions of ethnic and religious tolerance.
It is also particularly underlined that Azerbaijan gives great importance to the development of relations with the New Mexico State and Azerbaijan has honorary consul in Santa Fe, the capital of the state. The document also stresses the importance of further developing the relations of the US with allied states such as Azerbaijan.
A copy of the resolution was presented to Consul General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles Nasimi Aghayev, who attended the plenary meeting, following its adoption.
