Fruitful meetings and negotiations were held as part of the visit of the Azerbaijani delegation to Italy.
A delegation comprising chief of the department for political analysis and information of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, Elnur Aslanov, head of the working group of Milli Majlis for Azerbaijani-Italian inter-parliamentary ties Azer Kerimli, MPs Rovshan Rzayev and Rufat Guliyev, director of the Center for Strategic Studies Farhad Mammadov visited Italy on 27-30 November.
The head of the department for political analysis of the Presidential Administration Elnur Aslanov met with the diplomatic adviser to the President of Italy, Ambassador Stefano Stefanini. The meeting participants touched upon bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest, and held discussions on regional and global processes.
Then, Aslanov and Mammadov met with the head of the department for regional issues, tourism and sport of the Council of Ministers of Italy, Calogero Maucheri. At the meeting, Aslanov informed about the history and the bitter consequences of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, the negotiation process and possible solutions.
Later, the Senate held a conference on the "20th anniversary of the Italian-Azerbaijani relations". Deputy Senate President Benedetto Adrania and chairman of the commission of the Senate on Policy of the European Union, the head of the parliamentary group of friendship Azerbaijan-Italy Rossana Boldi spoke at the opening of the conference organized with the support of the Azerbaijani embassy to Italy.
The conference continued its work in sessions. At the first session, entitled "The Caucasus region and the relationship between Italy and Azerbaijan" reports were made by the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Ricardo Migliori, ambassador of Azerbaijan Vagif Sadigov, MPs Azer Kerimli and Rovshan Rzayev, the director of the Italian Institute of International Relations Ettore Greco and European Parliament deputy Fiorello Provera.
The orators noted that the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict is a serious threat to the security of the region and Europe, stressing the role of the OSCE in the resolution of problems and prospects of development of relations between Azerbaijan and Italy.
Chairman of the Senate committee for issues of industry, trade and tourism Chesare Kursi who opened the second session on ‘Relations between Italy and Azerbaijan in the sphere of economy and energy' made a report on importance of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy in economic and energy spheres.
Chief of the department of the Presidential Administration Aslanov informed about the policy of Azerbaijan in economic sphere, large scale energy projects and economic cooperation between Italy and Azerbaijan and noted the wider potential for the further development of these ties. He noted that Azerbaijan plays an important role in provision of energy security of Europe.
Other speakers also noted the dynamics of development of the Azerbaijani-Italian ties, and then the conference participants were presented books about Azerbaijan by researchers of the Roman University La Sapienza.
On the same day, the delegation of Azerbaijan met chairman of the House of Deputies of the Italian Parliament Gianfranco Fini.
