"Armenian aggressive policy is a main barrier into integration of Caucasus region to the Europe and Euro-Atlantic area," said Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in an event organized at the German Society for Foreign Policy as part of his official visit to Berlin.
Addressing the event, former German FM Hans-Dietrich Genscher hailed Mammadyarov`s visit to the country, expressing confidence that this visit will contribute to cooperation between the two countries.
Genscher said over past 20 years the Azerbaijan-Germany relations had intensively developed since the establishment of diplomatic ties.
He noted these relations covered not only economics field, but also other spheres.
The former FM stressed the importance of expansion of Azerbaijan-Germany and Azerbaijan-EU relations.
The German diplomat characterized Azerbaijan as "the provider of stability in the South Caucasus" and he praised Azerbaijan`s role in successful implementation of the regional energy and transportation projects.
Elmar Mammadyarov briefed the event participants on Azerbaijan`s macroeconomic indicators, as well as the implemented social-economic policy and Azerbaijan`s progress. The minister stressed that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperation with EU and he spoke about the work done by Azeri government in this direction.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Mammadyarov said this dispute must be settled on the basis of the norms and principles of international law.
The minister called the EU to demonstrate fair policy based on the international legal norms and principles. He also spoke about the cooperation in the energy field, as well as the "Eastern partnership" program and the work done within the European Neighborhood Policy.
Mammadyarov noted Azerbaijan was interested in cooperation with NATO, adding Azerbaijan greatly contributed to the peacekeeping activity of NATO.
The Azeri Minister also was interviewed by the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.
