A meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers took place Wednesday here as part of the summit of Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking Countries. 
The meeting was attended by Azerbaijani deputy foreign minister Khalaf Khalafov, ministers of foreign affairs Ahmet Davutoglu of Turkey, Erjan Kazikhanov of Kazakhstan, Ruslan Kazakbayev of Kyrgyzstan, as well as secretary general of the Cooperation Council Khalil Akinci and secretary general of TürkPA Ramil Hasanov.
Ruslan Kazakbayev briefed the participants on the progress made in the framework of the Cooperation Council. He noted solid basis had been created for expansion of relationship.
Khalaf Khalafov said recent summits of the Cooperation Council had contributed to protection of common cultures, traditions, national and spiritual values, historical roots of Turkic speaking nations. Khalafov noted Turkic speaking countries had coordinated their relations within international organizations as well. He said Azerbaijan`s securing a seat on UN Security Council is "our great victory." The deputy minister also spoke of the large-scale projects realized by Azerbaijan, adding due to these projects the Caspian region had become one of international energy centers.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Khalafov described it as a major obstacle to the development of the region. He said for more than 20 years Armenia, violating principles of international law, had been occupying the territories of Azerbaijan. "Due to official Yerevan`s unconstructive position the conflict still remains unresolved."
Other speakers at the event underscored the necessity of deepening relations among Turkic speaking countries.
