Azerbaijani parliament`s speaker meets chairman of Russian State Duma

On July 9th Speaker of Azerbaijan Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov met chairman of the Russian State Duma Sergey Naryshkin. 
First they met in private. Then, the meeting continued in presence of delegations.
On behalf of members of parliament Asadov offered condolences to Sergey Naryshkin and all the Russian people over mass loss of life as a result of the floods in Krasnodar region.
Asadov congratulated Naryshkin on his election as chairman of the State Duma of Russia. He praised the fact that in his new post Naryshkin made one of his first foreign visits to Azerbaijan, adding this serves expansion of cooperation between the two countries in all areas, including inter-parliamentary one. The speaker said more than 160 documents had been signed between Azerbaijan and Russia, and they created solid legal basis for development of comprehensive development of bilateral relations. Asadov pointed out trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia makes up 2.8 billion dollar. He added today more than 500 Russian companies were operating in Azerbaijan.
The speaker also briefed Naryshkin on the development processes in Azerbaijan, regional projects initiated by the country. He noted Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict puts obstacle to this development. Asadov highly appreciated Russia`s mediation efforts to solve this problem. He expressed hope that as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group and leading country in the region Russia would increase efforts to settle the conflict on the basis of norms and principles of international law.
Sergey Naryshkin thanked President Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Parliament and people for the condolences over the casualties caused by the floods in Krasnodar, as well as humanitarian aid sent to the region.
Naryshkin also underlined the role of legislative bodies in development of relations between the two countries, adding great potential exists for expansion of inter-parliamentary ties. He also stressed successful cooperation of the two countries` parliamentarians in international organizations. Naryshkin said "Using all opportunities we must strengthen and develop our relations in political, economic, humanitarian and other spheres."
The sides also discussed prospects for bilateral humanitarian cooperation, underlined the necessity of intensification of reciprocal visits of parliamentarians.
