Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Parliament Ogtay Asadov has met a delegation of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAAP), which holds the 17th Meeting of its Standing Committee in Baku.

Asadov said Azerbaijan had successfully hosted a number of regional and international events in the past few years. The speaker expressed confidence the 7th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties, which will be held this November in Baku, would contribute to developing "this influential international organization".

"Amid the world's complex political processes it's necessary to increase cooperation among Asian political parties. The parties that are represented in the governments and parliaments of regional states can influence national policy, which is one of the factors that conditions the creation of and development of cooperation among them."

"From this perspective, we consider deserving approval the fact that the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) is a member of this prestigious organization. We believe that the presence of a common platform for cooperation between political parties of the Asian continent has a positive impact on regional processes. We believe that this forum that brings together 300 political parties will help to eliminate international problems," Asadov added.

The Azerbaijani parliament speaker noted: "In this sense, it`s extremely important to pay particular attention to issues related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, which causes serious obstacles to the development of the South Caucasus. Despite the fact that four resolutions of UN Security Council and decisions of other international actors were adopted on the problem, the conflict has not yet found its logical solution. We appreciate the support of forum of Asian Political Parties for fair position of Azerbaijan and believe that the member parties of the organization will continue to be attentive to this issue, and make contribution to solving the problem."

Representative of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties Jose de Venecia praised the Baku conference of the ICAPP Standing Committee, saying it is well-organized.

He said that in different regions of the Asian continent, which had great economic potential, along with economic development, there were also areas of conflict.

"From this perspective, ICAPP pays special attention to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the South Caucasus, supports the solution of the problem in accordance with international legal norms on the basis of UN Security Council resolutions." He added the organization would continue to support a fair position of Azerbaijan.

He said ICAPP hailed the work carried out by President of Azerbaijan and activities of the parliament on this issue. De Venecia added these issues would be reflected in the Baku Declaration to be adopted at the end of the Standing Committee gathering.

The meeting was attended by deputy chairman-executive secretary of New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmadov, MP Asaf Hajiyev, Chairman and Secretary General of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties Chung Eui-yong, ICAPP representatives Mushahid Hussain Sayed, AI Ping and Theo Sambuaga.
