Azerbaijan's permanent representative to UN Agshin Mehdiyev delivered a document on country's official position related to the situation in the Near East. 
Speaking at the UN Security Council's discussions on the Near East, the Azerbaijani diplomat said the last events have changed the security, political and social status of the societies in this region. These are their efforts to re-establish their future in the frame of democratic states basing on the rule of law and respect for human rights what should certainly be estimated and supported.
The process should base on legal ground, economic and democratic development, Mehdiyev underlined.
Touching upon the Near East conflict, Mehdiyev expressed regret for lack of agreement between the sides. He expressed his concern for illegal resettlement in the occupied territories of Palestine. The UN Security Council should not be indifferent to violation of the human rights and fundamental freedoms, and ensure international peace and stability. To this effect, the organization should support dialogue and compromise between the communities, the diplomat stated.
Speaking of the happenings in Syria, Azerbaijan's permanent representative expressed concern for heavy human loss and violation of human rights. Mehdiyev called on the sides to cooperate with the UN and Arab League to put an end to the violence in region.
