On March 7th President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili visited Azerbaijan`s parliament, the Milli Majlis, where he met Speaker Ogtay Asadov.
Prior to the meeting, the Georgian leader toured a meeting hall and Heydar Aliyev`s memorial hall where he viewed photographs reflecting different periods of the national leader`s life and career.
Asadov said relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia were rapidly developing and reached strategic partnership level.
He praised the role of the two countries` presidents in strengthening and deepening the relations.
The Speaker said more than 100 documents were signed between Azerbaijan and Georgia, adding these documents created solid foundation for development of cooperation.
Asadov expressed confidence the official visit of the Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili to Azerbaijan would open new opportunities for expansion of bilateral ties.
The Speaker underlined the importance of joint projects between the two countries, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Gas Pipeline and Baku-Tbilisi-Akhalkalaki-Kars railway.
He also stressed the role of parliaments in developing the bilateral relationship, praising the activity of the friendship groups at the two countries` parliaments.
The Speaker also spoke of the conflicts in the region.
Saakashvili said Azerbaijan was rapidly developing, noting Azerbaijan was a leading country in the region.
The Georgian leader praised the Azerbaijani parliament`s contribution to the country`s achievements.
On the activity of thee inter-parliamentary friendship groups, Saakashvili hailed the role of head of the Azerbaijan-Georgia inter-parliamentary friendship group Ganira Pashayeva.
The Georgian President praised relations between the two countries` peoples.
During the meeting, they also discussed regional conflicts and a number of other issues of mutual interest.
