On February 9th Speaker of Azerbaijan`s parliament Ogtay Asadov met Prime Minister of Albania Sali Berisha.
Asadov pointed out that Azerbaijan puts great importance to boosting ties with Albania. He said high-level meetings contribute to deepening bilateral relations. Asadov expressed confidence the Albanian Premier`s visit would be a success.
The Azeri Speaker said there are great opportunities to expand the relations in a wide range of spheres, including energy, science, education, culture and tourism. "Azerbaijani is an active participant of regional projects and plays an important role in European energy security."
The Azerbaijani Speaker underlined parliaments` role in deepening relations between the two countries. He praised friendship groups` activity in both parliaments.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Asadov said Armenia continues to ignore the resolutions of international organizations, including the United Natiosn and PACE. "Azerbaijan supports a fair settlement of the conflict based on international law norms." Asadov expressed hope that Albania will further support Azerbaijan`s position.
The Albanian Prime Minister stressed the importance of the meetings he held during the visit. Berisha recalled his meetings with national leader Heydar Aliyev. He said Azerbaijan is developing rapidly under President Ilham Aliyev. He also underlined "the increasing role of Azerbaijan" in European energy security.
Berisha pointed out that his country is interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan in exploiting renewable energy sources, oil and gas industry and tourism.
He noted the importance of developing the interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Albanian Premier said his country supports Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
