Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov has met the European Union`s Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Philippe Lefort to explore prospects for developing the cooperation between the country and the organization.
The Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was also discussed, and Mammadyarov said solving the dispute was among the key priorities in Azerbaijan`s foreign policy.
"The conflict is the biggest problem faced by Azerbaijan. The major factors preventing the settlement of the dispute is that Azerbaijan`s lands are under occupation."
The FM stressed the necessity of changing the status-quo, adding "the first step towards this is the withdrawal of the Armenian Armed Forces from Azerbaijan`s occupied lands".
The Azeri FM and the EU Special Representative discussed a number of issues of mutual interest.
