Azerbaijan, France discuss bilateral relations

Chairman of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan Parliament) Ogtay Asadov met with visiting member of French Senate Nathalie Goulet.
Asadov praised high level political, economic and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and France, adding "the trade between the two countries was $4.4 billion for the 10 months of 2011. The activity of 40 French companies in Azerbaijan is the vivid indicator of high level bilateral economic relations".
The Milli Majlis Chairman has also touched upon the French Parliament`s bill criminalizing the denial of so-called Armenian genocide. He stressed "the Milli Majlis has sent a protest letter to the parliament. I don`t want to discuss the law adopted at the French parliament. But I must say the adoption of such law damages the image of France which is the cradle of democracy. The adoption of such the law forgetting the Khojaly genocide can spread the discord".
Asadov also thanked senators and members of the National Assembly of France, who demonstrate their commitment to principles by protesting the adoption of the law.
He underlined "We believe the Constitutional Council of France will make objective decision".
Nathalie Goulet underlined the France is interested in development of relations with Azerbaijan.
She stressed "we understand the protest of Azerbaijani people on the adoption of so-called "Armenian genocide" law at the French Senate. That is why we consider the parliament must not investigate the history".
