On December 12th Speaker of Azerbaijan Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov met member of the Mexican Senate, Carlos Jimenez Macias and his accompanying delegation.
The Speaker noted his country attaches great importance to development of cooperation with Mexico, underlining the necessity of continuation of political dialogue between the two countries. "We believe that the Mexican delegation`s visit to Azerbaijan will contribute to boosting interparliamentary ties and deepening relations between our peoples."
Asadov noted Azerbaijan played great role in energy security of Europe. "We highly appreciate the fact that Mexico wants to expand relations with Azerbaijan."
According to him, "discussions held by the Mexican Senate on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Khojaly genocide and adoption of a relevant document is very important for us."
The Speaker also stressed the necessity of deepening ties between the two countries` legislative bodies.
Asadov pointed out "development of economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Mexico corresponds to interests of our peoples". He added reciprocal visits of the two countries` businessmen and expansion of cooperation in various spheres may have good results.
Asadov also touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, describing it as a major obstacle to the region`s development. He also praised the Mexican government`s stance on settlement of the conflict.
Carlos Jimenez Macias, in turn, expressed satisfaction with the meetings he held in Baku during the visit. He noted Mexico places special emphasis on boosting relationship with Azerbaijan.
The Senator noted Mexican parliament was interested in development of cooperation with Azerbaijan Milli Majlis, stressing the importance of intensification of visits of parliamentarians.
Carlos Jimenez Macias also noted his country`s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict would remain unchanged.
