French Senate hosts "roundtable" on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

A "roundtable meeting" on "The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, forgotten conflict" and "French co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group" was held on December 8 in the French Senate.
The meeting was held at the initiative of the French Senate, Azerbaijani Embassy and Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh.
It brought together former ambassadors of France to Azerbaijan, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in the country, French and Azerbaijani parliamentarians, representatives of Diaspora, political experts, historians, journalists and students.
As part of the "roundtable meeting" a photo exhibition will be launched on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Opening the event senator Natalie Goulet expressed regret over the fact that Nagorno Karabakh conflict still remains unresolved. He said the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs` efforts to settle the conflict yielded no results.
Azerbaijani ambassador to France Elcin Amirbayov underlined the importance of Senate`s hosting this "roundtable meeting" in terms of increasing the awareness of the French people of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. He added the Azerbaijani community was interested in peaceful settlement of the conflict, as well. The diplomat noted Azerbaijan would never reconcile itself to the occupation of its territories.
Azerbaijani MP, member of the Azerbaijani community Rovshan Rzayev underscored the importance of discussion of the problem in the French Senate.
OSCE Minsk Group`s French co-chair Bernard Fassier said the Nagorno Karabakh problem was not a frozen conflict. He drew the participants` attention to the fact the war in Nagorno Karabakh killed 30,000 people averagely.
Chairman of the France-Azerbaijan friendship group, Jean-Louis Dumas said unfortunately the number of our Azerbaijani friends was less than the number of Armenians living in France. But the work is continuing to develop between the two peoples.
Rector of Azerbaijan Music Academy, member of Board of the Public Union of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno Karabakh, Farhad Badalbayli said Azerbaijanis and Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh co-existed for centuries. He rejected the opinion on impossibility of co-existing of Armenians and Azerbaijan after peace will be achieved in the region.
As part of the "roundtable meeting" a photo exhibition was launched on the Nagorno Karabakh.
