On September 23, in Baku at the regular meeting of the committee on cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Commission the sides will discuss the perspectives of the development of relations.
The agenda includes issues concerning cooperation, in particular in the energy sphere.
Legal ground of the relations between Azerbaijan and the European Commission was laid in 90s of the past century with the projects realized by the EC in CIS countries in the frame of TACIS programs.
The European Union and Azerbaijan cooperates on the base of Agreement on partnership and cooperation which came into effect in 1999, and also is being realized in the frame of European neighborhood policy started in 2003.
In May 2009, the relations between Azerbaijan and EC reached a new phase - partnership in the frame of EC`s "Eastern Partnership" program initiated by Poland and Sweden.
