As part of his visit to Germany, foreign minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov had some meetings.
Mammadyarov met his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle to discuss relations between Azerbaijan and Germany, regional situation, including the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, energy policy in the Caspian basin and various energy projects.
Westerwelle said political and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Germany were developing dynamically. He said German companies` interest to Azerbaijan had increased recently as the country is a reliable partner and favorable conditions have been created here for investors.
Mammadyarov, in turn, said the German, as well as European market was sustainable, profitable and forecasting.
Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Mammadyarov noted the Toronto Declaration of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries` presidents provides for stage by stage settlement of the conflict and reflects the reality. He added the Declaration is the same with the updated Madrid principles which Azerbaijan had adopted.
Guido Westerwelle said the federal government supports the Nabucco gas pipeline project.
The German minister underlined he wishes a memorandum of mutual understanding on energy policy to be signed between the two countries` foreign ministries.
The sides also discussed other issues of mutual concern including the rule of law and democracy within the Eastern Partnership Program (EPP) between Azerbaijan and EU.
Mammadyarov also met Philipp Mißfelder, spokesman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group on Foreign Affairs at the German Bundestag. He also made a speech at the parliament and answered questions of MPs.
Mammadyarov participated in an event organized at the Korber Foundation with support of the Azerbaijani embassy, where he met former German foreign minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher.
He delivered a speech at the event highlighting Azerbaijan's energy policy and Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
Mammadyarov also met with Christoph Heusgen, Foreign Policy and Security Advisor to the Federal Chancellor to discuss regional issues including the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and other questions of mutual interest.
