Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov met  Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Kohout on May 14th. Following the visit, the two ministers briefed journalists on the outcomes of their talks.
Mammadyarov said they discussed bilateral cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian, energy and tourism spheres.
He said they agreed to conduct reciprocal days of culture.
Mammadyarov noted he briefed his Czech counterpart on his country`s position on settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying the dispute must be settled on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and inviolability of borders.
Jan Kohout said Azerbaijan is Czechia`s strategic partner in the South Caucasus region.
He underlined the opening of Czechia`s embassy in Azerbaijan would contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
Kohout said his country was interested in economic cooperation with Azerbaijan, particularly transportation of energy resources. He added currently, 25 percent of energy resources used by Czechia belong to Azerbaijan. "So, every 4th car in Czechia moves with Azerbaijani petrol."
Kohout pointed out his country was keen on development of Azerbaijan`s industry. He said "we can share our practice in use of energy supplies and in purification of drinkable water. We would like to develop bilateral relations also in education and science spheres in the future".
He also stressed the importance of signing of a document on opening of Baku-Prague airline route, adding this will contribute to developing bilateral tourism cooperation, as well.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Kohout said Czechia is ready to contribute to settlement of the problem.
He said the conflict must be resolved on the basis of the norms and principles of international law, particularly the principle of territorial integrity of countries.
